Nooitgedacht Dam Nature Reserve

Nooitgedacht Dam Nature Reserve, renowned for its access to great fishing opportunities and the annual Morula Fishing festival, lies just 10 kilometres from Carolina on the Komati River, not even two hours from Johannesburg and Pretoria. This part of Mpumalanga is known as the grass and wetlands region

Songimvelo Game Reserve

Songimvelo Game Reserve lies deep in the Barberton Mountainlands and is one of the largest reserves of the Mpumalanga Parks Board that extends over 50 000 hectares. Songimvelo lies in a corner of the province little known to travellers, which is possibly its best attribute.


Situated in the very heart of South Africa's shimmering lake district is the historic town of Chrissiesmeer, otherwise known as Lake Chrissie. Lake Chrissie, is the largest freshwater lake in South Africa.


The trail is now a basecamp trail. New day trails are being developed including a 6-7 hours relatively strenuous walk for those who like their hiking difficult.

Suikerboschfontein Trail

The Suikerboschfontein Hiking Trail is a circular trail close to Carolina. These four seperate day trails can be combined with the basic two day trail to form a three day experience.

Grootdraai Dam

Grootdraai Dam is situated in the upper reaches of the Vaal River upstream of Standerton. It has a catchment area of 8 195km²

Loskop Dam Reserve

The 15000 ha Loskop Dam Nature Reserve is probably the Highveld and Cosmos region's more beautiful reserves. The reserve surrounds the 27 km long Loskop Dam that measures 2350 hectares on the Olifants River

Olifants River Gorge

The 'Great Olifants River' flows through a heavily forested and winding gorge into the Kruger National Park from its source in the Cosmos Region of the Mpumalanga Highveld. It is a beautiful area, embattled at times thanks to floods and other problems, but ever famed for its magnificent beauty

Three Rondavels

The Three Rondavels are three round mountain tops with slightly pointed tops, very similar to the traditional round or oval African homesteads made with local materials called rondavels

The Pinnacle

Pinnacle rock is a tower-like freestanding quartzite buttress which spectacularly rises 30m above the dense indigenous forest.

Close to Kruger National Park, the town's name is derived from the shimmering haze that occurs during the heat of summer.

Perry's Bridge Reptile Park

Perry's Bridge Reptile Park is close to the Phabeni gate and Numbi gate to Kruger National Park and on the panoramic route to Blyde River Canyon.. Species to view include: anacondas, reticulated pythons, black mambas.


Nelspruit, the capital of Mpumalanga, lies in the Crocodile River Valley and has been called the gateway to Mpumalanga and the Kruger National Park. See the Mbombela Stadium built for 2010 Soccer World Cup.
